Light art in public space
Amsterdam Light Festival originated from the 'Christmas Canal Parade' held in 2009. People from the first hour were Vincent Horbach, Henk Jan Buchel, Felix Guttmann, Raymond Borsboom, and Rogier van der Heide.
In 2010, they organized 'Winter Magic Amsterdam' with multiple activities alongside the boat parade. Raymond Borsboom and his team were responsible for the executive organization. The internationally known lighting designer Rogier van der Heide lit up the iconic Magere Brug in a special way for three weeks that year and suggested focusing the festival on light art from then on. Edition 13: 2024 - 2025
In the year the city celebrates its 750th anniversary, the thirteenth edition is themed 'Rituals'. Because; what better way to give this festive occasion a shine than a ritual? For Amsterdam750, the Oosterdok will be transformed into a canvas for three projection works and special activities will be organized.
